Cazzie David’s article “Going Cold Turkey” has an interesting headline that makes the readers curious about what the author is going to talk about. The phrase “going cold turkey” normally refers to a period of suffering that comes soon after a person has stopped taking an addictive drug, but it can also be used about quitting other bad habits overnight. 

David’s article can be divided into three parts that describe the period before, during, and after the week-long experiment. 

In the first part, David mainly focuses on the negative effects she experiences from using a smartphone. She describes her “foggy personality” (l. 5), and blames the “hazy feeling” (l. 4) on a smartphone addiction: “It wasn’t until my daily screen time caught my eye that I made the connection: I had gone a week spending an average of six hours a day on my phone” (ll. 5-6). 

Here, David also talks about the way her Instagram browing hurts her self-image:
