Logos, ethos and pathos

The dominant forms of appeal in Cazzie David’s article “Going Cold Turkey” are ethos and pathos. 

Ethos 

David appeals to ethos when she tries to describe herself as a typical smartphone user that people of her generation might be able to relate to. David portrays herself as a millennial and even leans into some stereotypes about her generation, particularly the common view that millennials are obsessed with technology:

I had gone a week spending an average of six hours a day on my phone. (…) The screen-time app revealed to me that I spent most of these six hours on Instagram. (…) I looked for more answers (on my phone). I checked the Insta...
