Discussion: Marriage in today's society
The overall idea the three texts suggest is that marriage is gradually loosing importance in modern society and that those who still get married, do it for different reasons than previous generations.
Marriage is important for social recognition
Text 1 is the only one which focuses on the people who still get married today. In “Why men and women get married”, Jenna Goudreau focuses on why people still choose to get married and argues that social pressure and love are the main reasons, with men viewing marriage as a life stage and women looking for supportive companionship.

However, when you look at texts 2 and 3, they both seem to suggest that marriage is less important nowadays because more and more people are single (the social stigma disappears when there are plenty others who are unmarried) and because cohabitation and shared commitment are as valid as an official marriage.
