Point of view
When you analyse this short story, it is relevant to look at point of view.
The story is written from a first-person perspective, Dawn being the character who describes her experience. Pronouns like “I” and “myself” and adjectives like “my” are present in the story; they help the reader view the action through Dawn’s eyes and we get to know her thoughts and feelings.
Nevertheless, Dawn can be considered an unreliable narrator, meaning that the reader cannot trust her completely. She is subjective when she tells the story of the adoption and we cannot know what other characters have to say.
