Summary

The main character of “The Somebody” by Danny Santiago, Chato de Shamrock, reveals that he is a Mexican teenager living in L.A. The name “Chato” comes from his face looking like that of a cat and “Shamrock” is the name of the street where he lives. Chato spends his time writing his name all around town with chalk or crayons, and he is decided to quit school. When he lets his parents know about his decision, his father is very ironic and too grumpy to care, while his mother is always taking care of her babies and does not seem to acknowledge the situation.

Chato is alone most of the time because his friends are gone: one of them is in prison while the other joined the Navy. As a consequence, their gang split up and a rival gang called Sierra ...
