Composition
Here, we will address both the outer composition (stanzas, verses and graphical expression) and the inner composition (beginning, subdivision and course) of the poem “The Commission” by Roger McGough.
Outer composition
“The Commission” is a poem comprised of two stanzas, each having fourteen lines. The poem has nor rhythm or rhyme.
The poem depicts the inequality found in our world. While the rich people enjoy sumptuous and lavishing meals, poor people endure famine and pain. A photographer is the one who depicts both these instances; however, he does not focus on the inequality of the world, but on the money he will receive.
Inner composition
The first stanza of the poem “The Commission” depicts a photograph taken in order to be used in a “glossy magazine” (l. 12) as part of a camp...
