“The boy on the left had no future. The one on the right is a talented star pupil...” by Kamal Ahmed is a nonfiction article covering the success story of a teenager, who managed to turn his life around with the help of a television company.

Newspaper articles can be news reports - simply rendering an event, editorials or opinion articles,  analyses, portraits, interviews or cover stories.

Kamal Ahmed’s article is between a cover story and a portrait. It does not report on a news event, but it covers the personal story of teenager Ryan Williams as an example of the way the environment children grow up in influence their development.

The text is structured according to the article genre: heading, subheading, introduction, main body and conclusion. In what follows, we will look at each of these elements:
