Point of view and narrator

The text is a third-person narrative, in which the narrator is anonymous and omniscient. The narrator is not involved in the conflict; he only renders the events and describes the thoughts and feelings of each character equally. He refers to the characters by using their names or pronouns: “he spread his arms” (p. 63, l. 32), “he noticed…” (p. 63, l. 25).

An interesting thing to notice is that the narrator does not seem to take sides. He never implies that one character is better than the other and he remains objective throughout the story. The only one who can decide which character to prefer is the reader.
