Summary

In “Okeechobee” by Claudia Zuluaga a young girl narrates the events of a trip with her family to visit Bingo, an old friend of her father’s. Before her family left, her mother and father had a fight and now the atmosphere is tense in their car. The mother mostly ignores the father and the narrator’s sister ignores the narrator. The narrator thinks about the different backgrounds her parents have. While her mother was raised like a princess and was used to be in the center of attention, her father grew up with several brothers and in a low-income family.
