Comment: The conflict between Victor and the ICE-man

It is clear that the two main characters of the short story, Victor, and the ICE-man have opposing views. This leads to them entering a conflict, which is not resolved; the short story has an open ending, and the reader does not know what will happen next.

The main cause of their conflict is race and the differences between Indians and white men:

The police officer abuses his power when arresting Victor and his friends. He does not feel ashamed and admits that he has the right to arrest them just because they were Indians.

At the same time, the boys mock the officer and white men, in general, thus aggravating the situation. The tension thus goes both ways in the beginning.
