Summary

“Death by Scrabble” by Charlie Fish is the story of a husband and a wife who are playing Scrabble. It is a hot day, which only increases the man’s boredom and frustration with his life and with his wife. He begins to think about all the things he could do if his wife were out of the picture, like climbing mountains, becoming an actor or sailing around the world.

As they keep on playing, the man notices that his wife is winning and he suspects that the words she chooses in the game are directed towards him and aimed to increase his unease and frustration. This makes him think about killing her, and he becomes determined to do it if the letters he chooses will indicate it.
