Summary

Barack Obama starts “Address to the Nation on Immigration” by addressing the American nation and announcing the topic of his speech, immigration in the US. He starts by pointing out that the US has been a country of immigration for that last 200 years, yet in the recent past the immigration system has failed. The current immigration system affects both legal and illegal immigrants as well as the general population. Because illegal immigrants are paid less, business owners take advantage of this situation and have a competitive advantage over those who do business legally. Obama reminds the nation of his pledge to deal with immigration issues when he took office and briefly presents some statistics which show that immigration to America is at its lowest rates since the 1970s.
