Receiver

The overall receiver of the text “A Rumor of War” is the entire readership who has access to Philip Caputo’s memoir. When published in 1977, his memoir was translated into 15 languages and published around the world. This means that reading Caputo’s memoir is not restricted by solely knowing the English language. This way, readers all around the word have access to Caputo’s memoir, not only the English-speaking public.

However, because Caputo is American and because he has served in the United States Marine Corps, we can assume that the narrower intended receiver of the text is the American public. In many ways, the memoir is intended for the American readership because it explains the way in which the US military forces dealt with war, something highly relevant for American people.
