Niall Ferguson mainly relies on logos and pathos in the excerpt from the book Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World

Logos

Ferguson appeals to logos when he uses logical arguments to support his idea. For example, he claims that “the imperial legacy has shaped the modern world so profoundly that we almost take it for granted” (p. 189, ll. 19-21). To support his view, he argues that the British rule has contributed to the development of economic liberalism, democracy, and the spread of the English language:
