Characters

The most important characters in the short story “Cyprus Avenue” by Lucy Caldwell are the unnamed main character and Nirupam Choudhury. Other active characters in the short story are the bartender, the main character’s mother and father, and Mrs Choudhury, but they are secondary characters.

The main character of the story is a Northern Irish person. Although the main character’s gender is not mentioned specifically, a few hints suggest that the storyteller is more likely to be a woman (for example, she at one point comments on her similarity to her dead sister).

Nirupam is the other important character in the short story. He is also a Northern Irish person, but of Indian or Pakistani descent.

Next, you can read full characterisations of Nirupam and the main character, along with a presentation of the relationship between them.
