The last part of your assignment asks you to discuss the role of food in society today, based on one of the texts, and using some of the following phrases: firstly, secondly, especially, in order to, despite, however, nevertheless, to sum up.

Both texts in your exam assignment can serve as a basis for your discussion of the role of food in society today. However, Text II takes a more detailed approach to the topic than Text I.

In Text I, the message about the role of food today is only implicit; it is not stated directly.

For example, Carrie Armstrong’s case suggests that some people use diets and food with the purpose of improving their health: “Carrie Armstrong was recovering from an illness that had left her bed-bound. With doctors warning her recovery would be slow, she turned to online health blogs and found what she thought was the healthy food holy grail: clean eating.” (ll. 1-3). However, the same example also suggests that these approaches do not necessarily work, especially if people take them to extremes and develop eating disorders.
