Literary period

“Chameleon” by Ranbir Sahota belongs to the category of 21st century literature, which is usually associated with the literary period called Postmodernism. This period spans over several decades and includes very different literature, which makes its features hard to categorize. However, there are some traits linked to Postmodernism which can also be traced in “Chameleon”. One of them is the use of the first-person narrator, which is often preferred by postmodern authors, along with a focus on characters in real-life modern contexts. In the story, the main character is also the narrator, who struggles with conflicts related to being a second-generation Indian immigrant in the UK.
