Analysis

The analysis of the short story “Blackberries” by Leslie Norris shows the narrative has a chronological structure. 

The main characters of the story are the boy, his mother, and his father. The barber, Mr. Frensham, also appears briefly, but he is not a central character to the story. 

The setting of the story is an unnamed town and the nearby Fletcher’s Woods. The story takes place over two days.

The story is told by a third-person narrator. The narration is limited to the boy’s perspective and what he observes of his surroundings and the other characters.

The language used in the story is formal. There are no contractions in the narration, but there are a few in the dialogue for authenticity.
