Characters

The most important characters in “A Place in the Sun” by Joanne Harris are an unnamed girl, who is the protagonist, and her friends Tanya and Lucida, as secondary characters.

Other secondary characters are the people at the All-Public beach and the people at the Golden Sands™ and Platinum Sands™, who form collective characters. Note that the protagonist also mentions her mother.

The protagonist of the short story is not given a name because her identity is not important, as she is a representation of a stereotypical young girl who feels pressured by society to be “perfect” so that she can fit in.

In what follows, we will highlight the main traits of the protagonist and the people at the All-Public beach, Golden Sands™, and Platinum Sands™.
