Narrator and point of view

The short story “With His Own Two Hands” by Albert Garcia is a first-person narration, told by one of the characters, Enrique.

At the time of the narration, the storyteller is an adult, but he presents events from his childhood and teenage years. Consequently, he already knows the resolution of his story and lets readers know this: “I don’t remember when I started to feel like that, but I remember when I stopped. Standing in Union Station, I can see the place where twenty years ago I met my grandpa for the last time.” (ll. 18-21)

Still, the narrator also uses the perspectives of his younger self which had limited knowledge of the future. He presents the way he perceived his grandfather as a child and as a teenager:

I loved staying up late to listen...
