When you analyze Tiffany Hyatt’s article “Why I Picked Up a Gun”, you should also consider those statements and ideas that could be interesting to discuss.
For example, the writer states: “Being a victim of an assault, combined with the mysterious killings, made me realize that my only recourse was to carry a gun” (ll. 20-23). Consider why Hyatt thought owning a gun was her only solution. For example, you could argue that she could have moved to a safer town. After all, owning a gun does not guarantee absolute safety. On the other hand, moving to a different town could prove difficult and expensive for a single mother of four children.
Do you think it would have been safer for Hyatt and her children to move or was training on gun safety and owning a gun the better choice?
