Literary period

Published in 2012, “Where the Gods Fly” written by Jean Kwok is a piece of contemporary literature. A lot of contemporary literature is part of the literary movement known as Postmodernism, which started developing in the 1960s. Postmodernism includes many features as it comprises a variety of texts and authors.

A frequent literary trait for Postmodernism is the use of an unreliable first-person narrator, which you can also find in the short story. Postmodernists are also fond of using special literary techniques, such as stream-of-consciousness. Additionally, “Where the Gods Fly” explores issues related to immigration, identity, and generation gaps in contemporary time. Postmodernist writers often have a preference for relatable characters dealing with contemporary issues.
