Summary

“There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury follows the only surviving house after a nuclear blast in Allendale, California in 2026. With a fully automated system, the house acts like it does on any average day, unaware that the inhabitants are dead. The morning clock sings to wake up the owners and the stove prepares breakfast. The clock announces that it is time for work and school, giving a warning about the rainy weather. The garage door opens but there is no one to drive the car.

The house then proceeds to everyday cleaning with the help of robotic mice. Outside, the west wall of the house is blackened by the blast but preserves the shapes of a family outside: a mother, a father, and two little children. The house protects itself from intruders ...
