Analysis

Here, we will highlight the elements of our analysis of the short story “The Woman of Letters” by Angela Readman.

The story's structure includes twists. These twists lead to the most important character, the narrator, becoming unreliable, as she tells her clients what they want to hear or what she thinks is better for them to hear.

The social setting covers aspects related to poverty, the position of women, marriage, parenthood, and online dating. The narrator has limited knowledge on the events although her knowledge of English puts her in an advantageous position.

The language of the story is easy to understand. The most frequently used language device in the short story is the simile (comparison), but we can also identify some metaphors, repetitions, and symbols.
