Summary

Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carries the letters he received from a girl named Martha, who studies at the Mount Sebastian College. He is in love with her and he constantly re-reads her letters, imagining their life together. However, although the letters and photographs from Martha are signed “Love”, Jimmy suspects that the girl does not really love him and that she is not interested in his fate in the war.
