Summary

In the first part of “The Storm” by Kate Chopin, Bibi, a young boy, and Bobinôt, his father, are waiting at Friedheimer’s store for a storm to pass. Bibi thinks about how his mother, Calixta, who is at home, will be afraid of the storm. Bobinôt buys a can of shrimps for Calixta.

In the second part of the story, Calixta is sewing at home. She realizes that the storm is coming and starts to close the windows and doors. She steps outside to gather Bobinôt’s clothes and notices Alcée Laballière approaching. He asks Calixta to wait in the gallery until the storm passes and she agrees.

Alcée helps Calixta gather Bobinôt’s clothes, and they both go inside the house. The two sit in the dining room. Calixta is nervous about Bobinôt and Bibi’s absence and hopes that they haven’t left Fri...
