Love

The poem “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe explores the theme of love. The poem presents the speaker’s request to his lover to join him and live together in the countryside. The line “come live with me and be my love” (l. 1) is repeated throughout the poem which shows that the two lovers are separated by distance and the speaker tries to convince his lover to join him in the countryside. 

The theme of love is also explored by presenting all the gifts the speaker promises his lover. These usually take the form of beautiful items or clothes and are all decorated with elements from nature such as flowers and leaves. The speaker also presents an ideal future in which he and his lover spend their life peacefully in the countryside: 

And we will sit upon the Rocks,
