Setting

The poem “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe is set in the countryside. Throughout the poem, the speaker describes the place where he lives and tries to convince his lover to join him, so they can live together in the countryside. The speaker lists several features of the pastoral  scene he is presenting to describe the setting: 

That Valleys groves, hills, and fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields. (ll. 3-4)

In this way, the speaker describes the setting as a beautiful place surrounded by nature and invites his lover to join him so they can experience all the pleasures this landscape has to offer. The poem focuses on nature and different aspects of the natural world to create an idyllic  atmosphere: 

And we will sit upon the Rocks,
Seeing the Sh...
