Style of language

The language used by Jessica Bruder in the article “The New Nomads: Living Full-Time on the Road” is mainly formal. The author uses standard vocabulary, but also slightly more complex words, such as “disgorge” (l. 3), “domicile” (l. 21), “epitome” (l. 52) or “ephemeral” (l. 54). The formal style of the text becomes more obvious towards the end when the author introduces statistics and vocabulary connected to finances and income inequality (ll. 64-67).

When analyzing the choice of words, consider that Bruder mainly uses negative words which show nomads’ difficult situation and suggest that forced choice to lead this lifestyle: “radical” (l. 19), “unshackled” (l. 33), “nightmare” (l. 49).
