Sender

The sender of the essay “The New Empire within Britain” is Salman Rushdie. He is a British novelist and essayist of Indian descent. His works mainly focus on historical and social issues.

 In his essay, Rushdie talks about his old job: “I once earned my living by writing commercials” (ll.329-330). He mentions it because he wants to highlight the reality of how black folk are treated in this field. Even though he does not mention anything that happened to him personally, we can see that he has insight into how white people in power discriminate against black people.
