Style of writing in lines 121-133

The tone of the language in lines 121-133 of the short story “The Lamb” by Andrea Carter is solemn and serious, reading almost like a confession by the narrator. The wording and sentence structure are fairly simple. The sentences are generally short. The longest sentences are the one describing Ruth’s photo (ll. 124-126) and the narrator’s confession of her enduring love for Ruth (ll. 131-132). 

There are a couple of significant repetitions used in this passage. The first one is present in the passage describing the reunion.
