Narrator and point of view

The short story “The Lamb” by Andrea Carter is told by a first-person narrator who is also one of the main characters. 

The narrator recalls events which happened 32 years ago. As the story is told by her adult self, the story mixes the perspective of the teenager with her current perspective as an adult. For instance: “I had my first drink that night, Stag, gulped back too quickly. I’d been shocked by the drunken feeling and disappointed by how quickly it wore off – a sign of things to come.” (ll. 74-75). The narrator’s past feelings about drinking indicate that she developed a form of alcoholism in her adult years due to guilt.
