Jack "Ernest" Worthing

Jack Worthing is a main character in the play The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. He is twenty-nine years old. Jack is an adopted child, who never knew his real parents. As a baby, he was abandoned in a handbag in a cloak room at Victoria Station, and found by Mr. Thomas Cardew, a member of the upper class. Mr. Cardew raised him as his own child and made him the guardian of his granddaughter, Cecily, in his will. This suggests he trusted Jack. 

Jack is very responsible when it comes to taking care of his ward, Cecily. He always acts serious and grave around her, because he wants to give her the best moral example.
