Summary

In “Sweet Cream” by Julia Kelk, Jenny and Fernando are sitting next to each other at a wedding reception in Mexico. Jenny has returned from Canada where she studied English, while Fernando is an old man who has never left Mexico. People talk behind Jenny’s back about her taking on American habits.

She and Fernando discuss the wedding cake, which is made in an American style. As Fernando’s son made the cake, the old man explains to Jenny that the top tiers of the cake are made of cardboard. Jenny believes that the bride and groom should have had a traditional cake, and argues that she does not believe there are fake cakes in Canada.

Jenny goes to the ladies' restroom and discovers there is no toilet paper. There is a person wearing white boots ...
