Reasons for writing "An Open Letter to all MPs in Parliament"

The main reason why Marcus Rashford has written “An Open Letter to all MPs in Parliament” is to inform the public about the desperate situation many poor families are in and to convince politicians to reverse the decision to end free school meals for low-income families during the summer holiday. These are his intentions.

Rashford relies on logos to explain the importance of children from struggling families receiving meals even after school ends. For instance, he uses statistical evidence to show the probability of the situation worsening over the following years if change does not take place:

To put this pandemic into perspective, from 2018-2019, nine out of 30 children in any given classroom were living in poverty in the UK. This figure is expected to rise by an additional one million by 2022. In England today, 45% of children in Black and minority ethnic groups are now in poverty. (ll. 43-46)
