Intention
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s intention with his “Pearl Harbor” speech is to persuade the US Congress to declare war on the Empire of Japan and also to persuade the American people to support the war effort.
Roosevelt uses ethos to build credibility for himself, not only as a prepared president of the United States but also as a proficient “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy”. He also adopts the role of the spokesperson for the US Congress and the American people, and he manages to convince both parties of the importance of declaring and supporting the war.
