Lighting

The movie Nomadland directed by Chloé Zhao uses mainly natural or minimal lighting. This minimalistic approach has been greatly praised, as it gives the events a realistic feel and helps the audience focus on what is happening, without any distractions.

The use of natural lighting can also add to the atmosphere and immerse readers in the events. As well as this, it makes it easier for them to see things from Fern’s perspective. Fern is always on the road, and she uses only a small lamp when it gets dark. The images that show the semi-lit interior of her van help the audience feel more sympathetic towards her and understand the realities of life on the road better.
