Here, we offer you information regarding the sender and receiver of “The United States of BOO!” by Michael Moore

Sender

In 2003, when the book Dude, where's my country? in which the essay is included was published, the sender was already a public figure known for being critical of the American political and corporate establishments. Moore was also known as a documentary producer thanks to films like Bowling for Columbine and the TV series show The Awful Truth.

Moore’s position as a well-known public figure and a respected critic of American politics and consumerism give him credibility as a sender.

The intended receivers of the text are all those who purchase Michael Moore’s book, the American public at large.

This is also suggested by the numerous references included in the text to the American people, with which the sender identifies: “Amazing how it didn’t take long to pound that belief so deep into our psyche that the country, the world, is teeming with terrorists.” (p. 167, ll. 6-8)
