Characters

The main character in the short story “Love in the Suburbs” by Maeve Binchy is Bonnie. In what follows, we will help you with Bonnie’s characterisation, but also with information about her relationship with the secondary characters in the story.

Bonnie

Bonnie is the protagonist of the short story. At the beginning of the narrative, her outer characterisation reveals that she is 15 years old and that she studies in a boarding school (p. 75, ll. 9). The text does not focus on Bonnie’s looks and appearance; instead, the focus is on the fact that Bonnie lives in the suburbs outside Dublin, together with her parents.
