Narrator and point of view
The short story “I Don’t Dream of Genie” by Chad Pelley is told in the first person, from the main character Sherry's point of view.
The narrator is generally quite explicit when sharing the events of her life, not hesitating to share even rather embarrassing details about her situation and experiences. For instance, she offers a vivid description of the bruises on her body and the rash she gets from the Santa beard (ll. 13-19), and she is also quite graphic when recounting her food poisoning: "I spent my flight home throwing up from both ends, in a cramped Air Canada washroom. I imagined half the plane was out there, listening in disgust" (l. 103-104).
