Style of writing
Beth Macy uses an interesting mix of styles in lines 63-72 of her article “‘I Am Going to Die if I Keep Living the Way I Am.’ She Was Right.”
Sometimes her style is quite formal, with plenty of technical words referring to drugs such as “Suboxone” (ll. 67, 70) or “fentanyl” (l. 69), and medical conditions such as “endocarditis” (l. 67). These formal elements help Macy build her ethos, as they give the impression of someone who is highly knowledgeable when it comes to writing about opioid addiction.
