Structure
The short story “Hemi’s Gift” by T J Corrigan has a linear plot structure. The beginning of the story shows the unnamed narrator waiting in line to board the bus and begin the journey. The story can be divided into two parts based on the change in setting and the narrator’s interaction with Hemi: the first part takes place on the bus while the narrator is alone and the second takes place mostly outside a roadside diner where the narrator starts talking to Hemi.
The story follows a chronological structure, with a few flashbacks recounting the narrator’s memories of her father before his death.
