Characterization of the narrator

Outer characterization

The narrator is one of the main characters of the short story “Green Velvet” by Krzysztof Pelc. Although the narrator’s gender is not directly mentioned, the wording “all the other boys” (ll. 89-90) suggests that the narrator is also a boy.  

The narrator has a younger brother, Reza, who was born in Canada. The narrator is Iranian and has emigrated from Iran to Canada with his parents when he was only a baby (p. 1, ll. 18-20). The narrator also goes to Iranian school on Sunday mornings (p. 3, l. 89) and learns Farsi
