Summary

The short story “Ghosts” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie begins with James Nwoye, a former professor of mathematics saying that he has seen Ikenna Okoro, whom he believed was dead. That day, James goes to the university Bursary to ask about his pension, which has been delayed again. No one is receiving their pensions because of government corruption.

While James is there, he chats with Vincent, his former driver. Vincent asks James about his daughter, Nkiru, who studied medicine in Enugu and now lives in America. Then, one of the other men gathered there asks James to buy them a banana, and James buys them bananas and nuts, as he has some money left from when he was working for the Federal Office of Statistics, ...
