Narrator and point of view

The short story “Ghosts” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is told from the point of view of a first-person narrator, who is also the main character. 

The narrator looks back on events from the past and reflects on them from his current perspective. He is heavily focused on the past and on how it impacts his present. 

The narrator is sometimes reflective as he thinks about the situation in his country and wonders if it would be different if they had won the civil war:

I wonder what would have happened if we had won the war back in 1967. Perhaps we would not ...
