In your analysis of George W. Bush’s “War on Terror” speech, you should also consider discussing or commenting on those statements made be the speaker that are particularly interesting or controversial.

First of all, consider that Bush seemed to exclude any other possible solution or way to fight terrorism besides war. The speaker creates the image of a battle between good and evil and thus pressure Congress and other states to support his measures. They are told that unless they agree to fight terrorism, they can only be on the side of evil and terrorists. This is noticeable in statements like the following: “Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” (ll. 198-199); “This is the fight of all who believe in progress and pluralism, tolerance and freedom.” (ll. 234-236).

Consider also the statement about the NATO character, which says that when one NATO country is attacked the other NATO countries will help defend it: “Perhaps the NATO charter reflects best the attitude of the world: An attack on one is an attack on all. The civilized world is rallying to America's side.” (ll. 244-246). The statement implies that...
