Setting

Part of the events described in the short story “Field of Tears” by Declan J Connaughton take place at a nursing home in an unnamed Irish village. Rita, one of the main characters, visits her grandfather at the nursing home where he benefits from “top-notch” care. When she meets her grandfather, the day room is empty, which hints that some of the residents from the nursing home might have died since she was last there:

He was seated in his wheelchair directly in from of the large window which looked unhindered ...
