Summary

“To Build a Fire” by Jack London starts with an unnamed man, who leaves the Yukon trail together with his husky dog, on an early cold winter morning. The man is heading towards a camp where he is supposed to meet some associates for checking the prospect of a logging business. Although it is extremely cold, the man has trust that he will reach his destination, although he has been advised not to venture alone on the trail on such a cold weather.

At first, the man advances with attention and care, trying to avoid falling in ice cracks which hide frozen water. At one point, he sends his dog ahead when the animal falls in such a crack. Afterward, the man helps the dog get the ice out from his paws. At lunch time, he stops to have some biscuits, but the cold is so strong that he needs to build a fire in order to eat.

After that, he carries on with his journey but he soon falls into an ice crac...
