Style of writing

This part of the guide will include aspects of Andrea levy’s style of writing in “The Writing of The Long Song”, which is one of the focus points in your essay.

While aspects like argumentation, rhetorical devices, and forms of appeal are related to the style of writing, we believe that a few other aspects related to structure and language are also useful for defining Levy’s style.

First of all, Levy’s style of writing is personal. She accounts personal events from her life (the conference), details about her family, and her process of writing the novel The Long Song: “I remember as a girl being unable to watch much of the TV dramatisation of Alex Haley’s Roots because it was too upsetting.” (ll. 33-36)

Consequently, her style of writing is accessible. Levy does not pretend to recount only objective facts but also her interpretation of these facts.
