Setting
The action in the story takes place in New York, a city that is famous for the chances it gives to people of every race and nation. An important part of the action begins in “Manhattan’s bar-filled Meatpacking District” (l. 1), a place filled with people who have drank too much and who need a taxi to take them home safely. Throughout the story, the author mentions the names of different neighborhoods and well-known places in the city, so the reader can easily follow Nadeem’s taxi route and can visualize the surroundings: the “JFK airport” ( l. 3), “Upper West Side, 105th and West End, and then Upper East Side, 75th and Third” ( ll. 28-29).
